Reliance shook the work once again when it talked about its plans to launch a wireless 4G service in India. The overall performance of Jio has till now received mixed response. While it was greeted with much enthusiasm with many saying that it is that best thing that has happened to India in the 4G scene, people have started complaining that its speed has decreased and there are many other issues too. Although it should be kept in mind that it is still in beta testing phase and the commercial launch is weeks always. This negative has not deterred the companies determination as they work towards new plans while fixing the issues that arise with Reliance Jio. One of these services is 1 Gbps wired broadband service.
Although there has been no official announcement as to when the new services will be introduced, Reliance has started testing some of these services in areas in Mumbai. Let’s have a look at some of these services.
Fiber To The Home
The biggest plan that reliance aims to introduce is FTTH, on which they started working about a decade ago. They started laying down fiber optics cables all over India. You may have seen huge machines working with cables or manhole with ‘RJIL’ written on them. With the FTTH service the company expects to bring up to 1Gbps speed to wired broadband internet in India. We hope that this will be introduced in six to seven months. If the Jio sims prices and plans are any indication other market players are in for trouble.
With the connection, the customers will get a set-top box, an Android smartbox, which could be Nvidia Shield or something similar. And with such a speed it will promise 4K videos everywhere. The set-top box for JioTV also works as a router. And it will be able to connect 44 devices at one time. The Jio TV service will offer 350 channels including about 50 in HD. The service will save all the TV content for seven days. And storage won’t be an issue as all these shows and films will be stored in a Jio servers.
The company plans to introduces devices that will make your home a smart home. These include security systems, motion sensors, doorbells with camera and speakers, fire detectors, smoke detectors and much more.
Reliance is already testing public WiFi in many areas in Mumbai and soon plans to introduce it nationwide. With public WiFi Jio aims to offer connectivity to its users 24/7. Customers will use Jio sims when inside the building and public WiFi when outside.
Jio aims to add more apps to My Jio service while still improving what’s already there. We will also see a Connected Car module, which is a small module that can be attached to OBD (on board diagnostics) port under your car’s dashboard. It will offer Wi-Fi inside the car along with offering many other controls to the user from his smartphone.
People have reported issues with Jios speed. If they are able to improve the issues in that they will have a great customer base. Let’s wait and see what’s in store for us in the future.
