If you were thinking that GTX 1080 Ti got only 2.5 GHz maximum overclocking limit, then you’re probably wrong. EVGA’s in-house overclocker, KINGPIN, has broken all the limit and now overclocked the maximum limit with the help of LN2 cooling.
GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition Goes Beyond 3 GHz on LN2 Cooling – GPU Frequency World Record
Previously we all have witnessed when GeForce GTX 1080 Ti broke the performance record of Titan X with a splendid clock speed of over 2.5 GHz. This time, GTX 1080 Ti has even surpassed the previous barrier, and now we can see a 500 MHz clock bump, which pushing it beyond the 3 GHz barrier.
KINGPIN again used the NVIDIA’s Founders Edition which is used to be known for it Solid component design and layout. The NVIDIA’s reference variants can easily touch the 2 GHz overclock with the help of air and liquid coolers, but in order to attain beyond, it will have to use the LN2 cooling system.
With the help of LN2, the card can perform some extreme overclocks. KINGPIN also used some custom modding on PCB to bypass the voltage locks. This shows that the card was modified to hit the frequency barrier.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti achieves an unbelievable 3024 MHz or 3.024 GHz overclock. With such a heavy clock, the card delivered a rated pixel fillrate throughput of 229.3 GPixel/s and Texture fillrate throughput 583.7 GTexel/s.
Obviously, the card would have consumed more power with such a heavy overclock but still, there is fine 80 Plus power supply which enables to get through it. Also, this performance stands as the GPU frequency record as the previous one was 3012 MHz clocked by GTX 1060 HOF.
The NVIDIA’s Founders Edition of the GTX 1080 Ti is truly so popular in the market that it has already been sold out a few days after launch, which means the card is surely a success for NVIDIA.
